Issues identified at Linkage Group Meetings

  • Agreement among those attending that increased Community Policing was the main priority for the Linkage Group – invest resources into this area and do not redirect Community Gardai when there is a shortfall
  • Main discussions: how much is confidential/who should take the notes/agenda and minutes should be available prior to linkage gp meetings
  • Schools Road Safety Initiative – start this initiative in July as opposed to September
  • CCTV – request a presentation on CCTV locations and how the information is used
  • Halloween Bonfires – highlighting the damage caused by bonfires and costs of repair to green space

Joint Policing Committee JPC

Purpose of the Committee/ Overview Statement

  • It is a forum for consultations and discussions on matters of crime and Policing within the Local Authority administrative area
  • It reviews levels, patterns of crime and any underlying factors
  • It allows for consultation, co-operation and accountability between An Garda Siochana, Local Authorities, elected local representatives and community and voluntary sector

Issues Considered by the JPC

  • Road Safety Statistics Presentation from Gardai Traffic Corp
  • Anti-Social Behaviour Orders – making positive use of ASBOs
  • Operation Thor – proactive tracking down of known criminals (via automatic number plate recognition
  • Area Crime Statistics
  • Community Policing Public Meetings – requirement of JPC to convene public meetings in 4 districts per year in April
  • Government is not providing sufficient resources to the Gardai except when large scale incidents occur
  • Safer Blanchardstown Project – report on projects
  • North Dublin Drugs & Alcohol Task Force – report on project
  • Juvenile liaison officer programme – gardai diversionary Officer programme working with young people to a avoid criminal record
  • Fingal County Council Anti Social Behaviour Policy – protocol followed by FCC when addressing ASB from local authority housing tenants
  • et up in other areas.
