The Bleeding Pig Cultural Festival is celebrating International Women’s Day on the Donabate/Portrane peninsula on Sunday 6th. March. The event will be held again on Zoom this year but we look forward to having a “live” celebration next year.
They would like to thank Fingal Co Co Community Department for their support for these events.

They are delighted to welcome Mayor of Fingal, Seána O Ródaigh to open the celebration. Seána is the third woman Mayor of Fingal since the position was created in 2006. Seána entered politics as she wanted to prioritise community mental health and wellbeing at local government level.
Dr. Annie Curtis is an immunologist and Senior Lecturer in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She has worked with Professor Luke O’Neill in his laboratory in Trinity College.
Dr. Curtis is a strong advocate for Women in STEM and was awarded a L’Oreal Women in Science Fellowship in 2017
Mairead Dempsey is in conversation with Dr. Curtis on the importance of sleep and the vital role it plays for our mental wellbeing and how it helps to keep our immune system in shape.
Catherine Connolly is an experienced Reflexologist and Aromatherapist at Fern Therapies. She is a Master Clinical Aromatherapist and works as a voluntary complementary therapist in Our Lady’s Hospice and care service in Harold’s Cross and Blackrock. Catherine will demonstrate how to make a cooling menopause spray and cream.
Mary Farrell, Vice chair of Active Age for All, is in conversation with author Rosemary Hennigan a former resident of Donabate.
Her debut novel “The Truth Will Out” will be launched on 17th March. Thirty-two-year-old Hennigan is a former solicitor, and has worked in the NGO sector on issues of asylum, direct provision and homelessness. She has worked as policy co-ordinator with Focus Ireland and has campaigned with Home for Good to secure a referendum on the Right to Housing.
Rosemary is a Fulbright scholar and studied for a LLM (Master of Laws) at the University of Pennsylvania.
“The Truth Will Out” follows a cast of actors who fall into paranoia as they rehearse a controversial play. It has received rave reviews.

“A Chat with the Girls” – Debbie Breslin has an intergenerational conversation with three women and gets their views on modern life.
These talks will be interspersed with music, song and poetry.
Margaret Godwin plays “Mná na hÉireann” on the flute. Erin McGahan plays “Eleanor Plunkett” on the violin. Denise O’Toole sings “Bread and Roses”.
Marian Neary reads two poems from her books of poetry – “Soul Journey” and “To the River Again”. These books raised €15,000 for the Mayo and Roscommon Hospices. The two poems are“The Secondhand Book” and “Thin Air”. The inimitable Rose from Fingal gives her humourous view on coping with aspects of modern living.
Debbie Breslin reads “Let Her Breathe” a poem by Becky Hemsley.
On Tuesday 8th March we will continue the celebration of International Women’s Day with the showing of the Irish Award winning film “A Date for Mad Mary”. This will take place in the Parish Hall in Donabate at 8.00pm.
