Philip Walsh from Malahide – Mayor for the day on his 27th Birthday! #CoronavirusSolidarity #CommunityCall

Mayor Eoghan O’Brien was delighted to attend Philip Walsh’s 27th birthday street party yesterday. Philip sadly lost his dad very suddenly 7 weeks ago and his mam Deirdre is battling cancer so they’re going through a very tough time. Philip’s uncle Fintan got in touch with Councillor O’Brien on Friday to ask him to pop down & he was delighted to do so.

Councillor Eoghan O’Brien handed over the chain of office so that Philip could be Mayor for the day. He stepped up to the role very well and the consensus was that the chain suits him far better than it does Eoghan!

Fair play to Olive Kelly for getting the ball rolling and Robbie and Claudine Keane for sending the request for birthday cards viral. Nicky Byrne also paid a visit along with messages from Paul McGrath, some of Phillip’s WWE heroes and lots of other well known sports stars and celebrities.

The day started with an emergency services drive by with presents and cards dropped off by Dublin Civil Defence, the Coast Guard, Dublin Fire Brigade, the National Ambulance Service and An Garda Síochana led by local Inspector Dermot McKenna. Loads of local people and businesses dropped by with cards and presents to make it a birthday Philip won’t forget for a long time! The celebrations even featured on RTE News!

The community spirit on display was incredible and Eoghan O’Brien was honoured to have been asked to join in the day. Well done all involved and once again, happy birthday Philip!
