Tesco Ireland supporting the Community Call.

At Tesco, we are pleased to support The Community Call in our stores nationwide. Volunteers
who are shopping on behalf of a vulnerable person in the community will be supported in-store,
in the following ways:
Priority Access
Volunteers arriving at a Tesco store should let our colleagues at the entrance know that they are
shopping on behalf of a vulnerable person in the community. Where possible, volunteers will be
given priority access, without needing to queue.
Multi-Shop Trolley Bags
Multi-Shop Trolley Bags will be available for volunteers and we hope that they will be particularly
helpful for those shopping for more than one person. We recommend that volunteers bring these
bags to the store every time they visit Tesco to shop for somebody else – this will help us to identify
them and provide appropriate support.
Sanitising
Sanitising products are available in our stores to clean baskets, trolleys and bags, as required.
Payment
There are lots of ways to pay in-store including cash, card, contactless (up to €30) and gift cards.
We can also assist volunteers who need to telephone the person on whose behalf they are shopping,
to receive their card details. These types of payments will be facilitated most easily during our
dedicated shopping hours for the over 65s and family carers (up to 9am Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
During other times, there may be some delays, which we will try to avoid. To protect against
fraudulent activity, there will be a payment limit of €50 and one item of alcohol, for these types
of transactions.
Volunteers who need to carry out over the ‘phone
payments should:

• Pay through a regular check-out, rather than self-scan, and let our colleague at the
check-out know in advance that they will need to phone the customer to pay
• Follow the check-out colleague to the Customer Service desk once the goods are
scanned through and packed. Customer Service will then phone the customer, and key-in
their card details to process the payment
• Have the customer’s phone number to hand. The customer should also be told to expect
a call from Tesco to process their payment.
We hope these little helps will assist volunteers around Ireland as part of The Community Call.
