Smart Villages Training Programme for Rural Dublin

A message from Dr. Aoife Doyle | Associate Director | KPMG Future Analytics

“As you may remember, we noted our intention to prepare sample ‘Smart Village Action Plan Manuals’ for a number of pilot case study locations across rural Dublin. These locations were Balbriggan, Ballyboughal, Garristown, Glencullen, Lusk, Naul, Oldtown, Saggart and Rathcoole.

See below these Action Plan Manuals. These documents include a step-by-step guide towards developing a Smart Village Action Plan; an overview of the relevant policy context; detailed regional and local profiles; and the findings of the community survey we ran over the course of the project (please note that in some locations lower overall survey responses were recorded and thus in these cases a summary overview of all survey responses across the region is presented – to provide an insight into wider views and perspectives around the development trajectory of rural Dublin).”

“In addition, and for ease of reference, included are links to all of our YouTube recordings of the training below:

As we noted at the time, the Census 2022 results are being released slowly over the course of this year. It will be useful to review and reflect on the findings contained within these Manuals once the full suite of data becomes available.

It was a pleasure meeting and working alongside so many of you in recent months. As the concept of Smart Villages continues to grow and evolve (including the increasing emphasis on Smart Villages across a range of Irish Government programmes and strategies), we hope this training – and the manuals – can be a helpful resource for you as you advance community projects or initiatives in this space.”
