What are ‘quiet streets’?
The quiet streets project is an opportunity to enhance streets in residential areas. Streets chosen for the programme will receive tailored solutions that aims to reduce air pollution and the impact of traffic on residents while also making the street a more attractive and pleasant place to spend time.
Solutions will include filtered permeability- installing planters or bollards used to cul-de-sac the street and prevent ‘rat-running’ of cars.
Filtered permeability means that pedestrians, cyclists, residents’ vehicles, and emergency vehicles can access the street, while preventing cut-through motorised traffic. The trial aims to enhance safety on the street and create a more vibrant and enjoyable living environment for residents.
