National Tree Week (21 – 27 March 2022)

National Tree Week
21 – 27 March 2022

The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second-best time is now.”
― Chinese proverb

It’s never too late to plant a tree, and we want to help the people of Fingal to do their bit for the environment as well!

To help celebrate this year’s National Tree Week and the launch of our “Forest of Fingal Tree Strategy”, Fingal County Council is pleased to announce that it will be giving away 16,000 tree whips to members of the public to help improve and increase tree cover in the County and ensure the benefits of trees are guaranteed for years to come.

Species that will be handed out by the council during the week include Alder, Hawthorn and Birch. There is a limit of two whips per
household.

Given the popularity of our last free tree giveaway, this year we will be expanding the locations available for you to collect a tree. You can choose to go to:

• Millennium Park, Blanchardstown
• St Catherine’s Park, Lucan
• Newbridge Demesne
• Malahide Demesne
• Ardgillan Demesne
• Ward River Valley, Swords (Saturday 26thonly – 9am-12pm)

We want you to plant these wonderful native saplings in your own garden. If possible, we would like you take some photos of your tree being planted and ask that you share the images via Fingal’s social media channels:

• facebook.com/fingalcoco
• instagram.com/fingalcountycouncil
• twitter.com/fingalcoco

Fingal has around 2,000 hectares of public open space, of which a large proportion are heritage landscapes, defined in many respects by woodlands and trees. We want to help ensure that everybody across the county can enjoy what we have on our doorstep for future generations, and that households can also benefit from the
joy of beautiful trees in their own backyard.
