Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today announced the appointment of three Ordinary Members to the Charities Regulator.
The Charities Regulator is the State organisation responsible for registering and regulating all of Ireland’s charities, with the mandate to promote good governance practice.
The Minister welcomed the appointment of the new Board members, who were selected following an open competition through the Public Appointments Service (PAS).
The following new members have been appointed to the Authority:
- Stephen Keogh: A practicing solicitor and managing partner in the private legal firm Sellors LLP;
- Darren Lehane: A Senior Counsel practicing in the areas of public law, commercial law and chancery law;
- Michael O’Sullivan: is a former Assistant Commissioner with An Garda Síochána, where he retired in 2020 as the Head of the National Crime and Security Intelligence Service.
Making the announcement, Minister Humphreys said:
“I would like to congratulate the newly-appointed members, who will bring a wealth of experience and expertise in their contribution to the integral work of the Charities Regulator.
“I would like to take this opportunity to also thank those departing members, who have played an important role in the significant progress made by the Regulator in recent years.
“With over 11,500 charities on the Charities Register, the work of the Regulator is vitally important.
“I have no doubt that the board will continue its essential work in building public trust and confidence in our charity sector.”
