The Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2016-2035 was prepared by the National Transport Authority (the “NTA”) and adopted by the Government in 2016, in accordance with section 12 of the 2008 Dublin Transport Authority Act (the “Act”). That Strategy set out to contribute to the economic, social and cultural progress of the Greater Dublin Area by providing for the efficient, effective and sustainable movement of people and goods.
It has been an essential component, along with investment programmes in other sectors, for the development of the Greater Dublin Area. Major projects provided for in the strategy include:
• Luas Cross City
• The reopening of the Phoenix Park Tunnel Rail Line
• BusConnects
• The on-going roll out of cycle tracks and greenways
• Metrolink
• DART Expansion
The NTA has now started to review the 2016 – 2035 Transport Strategy in accordance with section 12 (16) of the Act. This review will assess the implementation of the current plan, and look to produce an updated strategy which will set out the framework for investment in transport infrastructure and services, for a twenty year period from 2022 to 2042.
As part of this review, the NTA is seeking the views of a wide range of stakeholders and members of the public. An Issues Paper setting out some of the key considerations that we believe need to be addressed as part of the review is available to view at www.nationaltransport.ie.
If you wish to provide feedback on behalf of your organisation, particularly in relation to what should be considered in the review of the transport strategy and what should be included in an updated strategy, we would ask that you submit your comments via our website, www.nationaltransport.ie using the feedback form, which will also facilitate attachments if required (up to 15mb).
The deadline for receiving feedback is Friday 22nd January 2021.
We trust that the above is in order. If you wish to seek clarifications on any matter, please do not hesitate to contact the strategy team.
We look forward to hearing from you.
