You will build the skills and relationships you need to make a real difference to biodiversity in your community.

Registrations are open for interested participants living/working in the Fingal, DLR and South Dublin regions.

Your Committment: Courses will take place from Sep to Feb. You will attend one day/evening (your preference) online training session every 2 – 3 weeks and 2 field trips to a local waterbody held on Saturdays.

Water Biodiversity Training Course

The Water Biodiversity Course is all about getting to know your river and what your community can do to protect it. You will learn about how rivers and lakes are formed, the problems they face and come up with ideas and actions for how to improve them.

By attending this course, you will learn

  • How river catchments work and its relevance to your local rivers
  • What the main sources of river pollution are and how we can address them
  • How we can build climate resilience into our waterbodies
  • How to become a citizen scientist and investigate the water quality in your stream
  • What plans and projects would benefit your river
  • Where and how to apply for funding to make these plans a reality

Your community will also take field trips to local rivers to learn how to ‘read the river’ and to assess water quality by looking at the bugs that live in the stream. We will also discuss potential plans and projects for improving water quality/biodiversity along your waterbody.

If you complete the full course your community will leave with a completed Water Biodiversity Action Plan designed around your river. This plan will allow you to easily apply for funding to make your projects happen!

Registration is open to participants aged 16 and over.  To Register, please click on
