This strand of funding allows professional artists to avail of an award up to €5,000, closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 24 February 2023 at 4pm.

Funding increase of 25%

Fingal County Council invites applications for the Artists’ Support Scheme 2023. This strand of funding allows professional artists to avail of an award up to €5,000 towards travel/professional development opportunities, a residency or towards the development of work.

The objective of the Artists’ Support Scheme is to support individual professional artists from Fingal to develop their artistic practice. Due to demand for the scheme, funding has increased by 25% this year, to a total amount of €250,000. The award is open to practising artists at all stages in their professional careers working in music, visual art, drama, literature, film and dance. To be eligible to apply, applicants must have been born, have studied, or currently reside in the Fingal administrative area.

The Mayor of Fingal, Cllr. Howard Mahony commented “I am confident the 2023 funding opportunity will enhance the creative ambitions of our artists by providing them with the time and financial support to produce thoughtful and inspiring work.”

Speaking about the award, Chief Executive of Fingal County Council, AnnMarie Farrelly said “I am delighted to announce this bursary strand which last year saw a total fund of €200,000 awarded to 122 artists. The Council is committed to supporting the professional development of artists in Fingal through this essential scheme.

Director of Services, John Quinlivan said, “Fingal County Council is pleased to provide this artist’s opportunity. We recognise the intrinsic value of the arts in Fingal and how vital it is to support and invest in our artists.”

Visual artist, Ellen Duffy was among the artists awarded through the Fingal Artists’ Support Scheme in 2022. The funding she received was used towards the research and development of new ambitious work. Duffy stated “The award enabled me to explore new processes within my 2D practice, including; a screen-printing course with Damn Fine Print and bringing together my 3-dimensional work and drawing/collage practice. It has afforded me the time and space in my residency at Draíocht to cultivate new skills and implement them in ways that have informed the breadth of my practice that are continuing to evolve. My first solo show, An Incidental Flux, opens on March 1st at Draíocht and will showcase some of the work developed over this period.”

The Fingal Artists’ Support Scheme funding is for projects/initiatives which will take place from 1 May – 31 December 2023.

Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 24 February 2023 at 4pm.
