EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2023

Fingal County Council’s Active Travel unit want to invite community groups to participate in EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2023, happening from September 16th to 22nd. This global initiative promotes sustainable transport and encourages communities to explore their local areas in new and innovative ways.

Fingal’s Active Travel unit is inviting community groups to organize themed guided walks or cycles in their neighbourhoods during EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2023. The goal is to get people out on foot or bike, enjoying their local environment from a fresh perspective and connecting with their neighbours. This is inspired by the global ‘Jane’s Walks’ festivals of free, community-led walking conversations inspired by Jane Jacobs. These community-led walks encourage people to share stories about their neighbourhoods, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect with their neighbours.

Here are a few examples of the events you could host

  • Nature walk: Lead a guided tour through local parks and green spaces, showcasing the beauty of nature and teaching participants about the native flora and fauna.
  • Historical journey: Take participants on a walking tour highlighting significant historical landmarks and sharing stories that unravel the rich heritage of the area.
  • Culinary delights: Create a food-themed tour, introducing participants to local eateries, cafes, or food markets, and celebrating the diversity of our neighbourhood.
  • These are just a few ideas, but we encourage you to get creative and design an event that reflects the unique character and interests of your area.

Participating in EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2023 will not only promote sustainable transportation but also help us appreciate our surroundings and the people who make it special. Let’s make EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2023 an unforgettable experience that strengthens our community bonds, promotes active living, and showcases the vibrancy of our neighbourhood.
