Brigid in Balbriggan

Balbriggan (Baile Brigin) is one of Europe’s most diverse towns and is expanding into a vibrant hub of creative expression and life. To celebrate our community on Brigid’s bank holiday, Fingal County Council, along with Our Balbriggan and Community Wellness, invite you to join in for an illuminated and fiery procession on Monday 5th February 2024 from 6pm for approx. one hour.

Performers from Luxe Landscape Theatre Company will carry light and fire from Church St, outside The Lark, gathering the community at George’s Square, in a powerful and emotive performance, spreading Brigid’s light, before bringing everyone on a processional journey down Quay Street, under the viaduct and onto a fiery celebration on the beach. Everyone is welcome to join in this family friendly event to celebrate the return of Spring with fire mandalas, landscape theatre and more. A celebration of light, hope and coming together of our wonderful and beautifully diverse community.

Brigid was known for equality, with Brigid’s Cross being equilateral in its nature. She was also renowned for inclusivity, using her healing powers to assist the sick, poor and vulnerable. No one was ever turned away. And she is the female archetype of resilience, symbolised by the snowdrop ushering in the Spring as Winter months melt away. Her energy through the natural world brings hope and vitality.

At this time of emerging light, all of the many communities that make Balbriggan their home, are invited to weave the diversity under Brigid’s cloak and guiding light. Together, build a bridge to a common future of hope, connection and wellbeing as we walk together in this procession of light.

Brought to you by Fingal County Council, Our Balbriggan, Community Wellness & Luxe Landscape Theatre.
